The Cathaoirleach and Members of Thurles Municipal District accorded a Civic Welcome and Reception to Thurles Lions Trust Housing Association on Thursday 11th May 2023. The Civic Award was granted “for their dedication to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs and develop and operate social housing in the Thurles area”.
At the reception the Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Peggy Ryan, and the elected members thanked all those associated with Thurles Lions Trust for their commitment to the delivery of housing, with associated supports, in the Thurles and now also Roscrea areas. The recent completion of the Stanwix Village development brings to 80 the number of homes now provided for those in need of housing. Plans are also being advanced for more houses on town centre sites in both Thurles and Roscrea.
Recognition was also accorded to the work being undertaken by Thurles Lions Trust at the Emergency Refugee Accommodation Centre in Littleton. To date in excess of 700 refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine have been accommodated at the Emergency Refugee Accommodation Centre which is managed by the Lions Trust.
