Lion Matthew Bourke House (2007)

Lion Matthew Bourke House: opened in 2007, this development of 14 self-contained apartments provides supported accommodation for 14 vulnerable adults many of whom were at risk of homelessness and referred there by Homeless Services.

With a staff of six full and part-time staff, Matthew Bourke House is now an essential cog in the delivery of 24- hour supported, caring accommodation to those most in need of such accommodation in our community and the wider mid-Tipperary region. Annual operational costs are funded by a combination of rental income, and annual grants from both the HSE and Tipperary County Council.

A preliminary site layout for the 1.2 acre site adjacent to Lion Matthew Bourke House has been advanced through pre-planning. This development will be advanced at some future date.

Lion Matthew Bourke House operates under Service Level Agreements with both the Social Inclusion Section of the HSE and the Homeless Services Office of Tipperary County Council. This latter agreement is in place since 1st January 2020. Under the agreement with Tipperary County Council six of the 14 apartment units in Matthew Bourke House are made available for the accommodation of persons referred there by Homeless Services in return for Section 10 Homeless funding of €50,000 per annum. All of the residents of Matthew Bourke House are supported by the staff to regain their independence in the shortest possible time and to move to independent accommodation, with continued outreach tenancy supports in order to sustain their tenancies.
