Lions Club International

The entire organisation of Lions Clubs can be summed up in the simple motto of every club and member: ‘We Serve’.

The entire organisation of Lions Clubs can be summed up in the simple motto of every club and member: ‘We Serve’. The mission of the organisation articulates this clearly: “To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs and encourage peace and international understanding through Lions Clubs.”

Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion

Whenever a Lions club gets together, problems get smaller. And communities get better. That’s because we help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy.

“At Lions, the underlying conviction is that human beings are not just individuals, but also communities. Our purpose on earth is not just to achieve personal success, but also to contribute actively to social progress.”

Closely related to the mission is Lions Clubs’ vision; to be the global leader in community and humanitarian service.  It goes without saying that community is an essential part of that vision.  At Lions, the underlying conviction is that human beings are not just individuals, but also communities. Our purpose on earth is not just to achieve personal success, but also to contribute actively to social progress.  We are obligated to leave the world better than we found it.  Communities do not just come into existence.  They need to be built.  They must be built locally, no doubt, but also throughout the world, wherever and whenever there is a need.  Because they are rooted in local communities, Lions Clubs are in a unique position to capture and respond creatively to local needs. And the work of Lions Clubs takes on a global dimension through the work of the Lions Club International Foundation.

Lions Clubs do not merely talk about community.  They also strive hard to build it. Indeed, action is another essential dimension that defines Lions Clubs’ approach to society.  Whether it is fighting blindness and hearing loss globally, supporting people devastated by natural catastrophes, coming to the aid of those dehumanized by hunger and cold, organising community health projects, promoting peace, working on social issues in the community and many more;  the aim of  the Lions Club is to serve and to make a difference for the better.
