Lions Food Appeal
Drop off points are located in Thurles Shopping Centre and Tesco so make sure you keep an eye out for us in December!
The Lions Food Appeal has been running for over 30 years and was begun in 1988 in conjunction with the national broadcaster as ‘The Lions/RTE Food Appeal. Although it has evolved and changed over the years, the basic mission remains the same: to collect, donate and deliver food to those in need over the Christmas period. The Thurles Lions collection takes place over two weekends in December and numerous local business and supermarkets act as drop off points, with Lions on hand to assist as need. All food (and other donations) is then distributed in conjunction with the St. Vincent de Paul, ensuring that those most in need of help are looked after.
The Lions Christmas Food Appeal has been very successful and Christmas 2014 saw Lions raise and dispense almost €3 million worth of food throughout Ireland. Approximately €3,500 worth of food and vouchers were distributed by Thurles Lions Club.
